Protect and Serve

The gang is at the beach, surfing and getting some sun. Bell comes out of the water, impressed by her surfing skills. Vivian is in a bikini, sunning herself, when she notices some boys from the school she teaches at staring at her. She tells them to go away and her friends tease her for being a hot teacher.

They return home and Bella discovers her plants knocked over. She starts to blame Moo, the cat, then sees that someone had cut open the screen in her kitchen window and some of her things are missing. She calls the police and Officer Ronny Helton (played by Michael Weaver) arrives to take her statement. Bella flashes back to 1991 when she and Ronny were dating. She was in high school at the time and had to sneak out to meet him. Her dad showed up to break up their date and broke things off between them.

Ronny catches Bella looking at his hand and he tells her he's not married. He finishes taking her statement, gives her a veiled compliment, then leaves. Bella tells her friends she's still smitten with him and doesn't understand why he didn't ask her out.

She goes to the flower shop and finds her neighbor, Ike the Biker, has her driveway blocked. She asks him to move so she can receive her delivery. He tells her he'll see what he can do, but Bella's delivery truck decides to just drive away.

She tells Daphne about seeing Ronny and says he hasn't called her yet. Daphne takes Bella for a walk to scope out all the cop hang outs to see if they can find Ronny. Eventually they see him at a sausage place. Daphne tells him that Bella loves sausage and they go there all the time. Ronny suddenly gets up and beats up a criminal across the street. Bella finds herself in awe and Daphne gives Bella's number to Ronny's partner, saying her sister likes Ronny.

After several days, Ronny finally calls and asks Bella out. He tells her he's in the neighborhood and will be over soon. The door rings, and it Bella's dad who is there to install new locks. Ronny then shows up and there is an awkward exchange between him and Bella's dad. Ronny leaves and tells Bella maybe they can go out later. Bella's dad insists that more locks need to be installed and he'll just stay the night until he can get to them in the morning.

Ronny calls Bella and she agrees to meet him. Her dad is asleep on the couch as she sneaks out of her house. Bella and Ronny walk down the street. He tells her about all the criminals and con artists in the neighborhood. Bella tells him not to insult her stomping grounds. He sees the psychic and tells Bella she's a fraud who sells counterfeit purses. They then go to their old make out spot and start kissing. Bella's dad calls and Ronny tells her that he's technically still working so maybe they can get together later.

Cyrus gets the idea to make extra money by selling door to door security systems. He is unsuccessful at first, but then he hires two homeless guys to walk around the neighborhood and look menacing. That causes his business to pick up.

Bella goes to Marina and finds the door open. She walks in and sees a box full of purses. Marina walks out and asks her what she's doing. Bella tells her she needs a reading, but Marina tells her she's fuzzy and can't see clearly now. She tells her not to worry and that she gets moments where she loses her psychic ability, but it always comes back. Bella begs and Marina finally grabs her hands and says she sees a wave. Bella asks if it's at the beach and Marina says it's in the city and her ex is involved.

The principal goes to Vivian during a class and calls her out of the room. He tells her he received a letter saying she was engaging in inappropriate behavior with the male students at the beach. Vivian insists she hadn't done anything wrong. Later she hears one of her female students getting in a fight with her boyfriend, who was also one of the guys at the beach earlier. She asks the student if she wrote the note and the student explains that her boyfriend doesn't look at her they way he looks at Vivian. Vivian assures her that she's beautiful and that they're on the same side.
