Sarah has a dream of Cameron watering cacti over the grave of Cromartie. The cacti rapidly grow behind John. The plant's vegetative flesh becomes metallic and grabs onto John.
Sarah wakes up and finds herself in the back seat of the truck. John is driving her and Cameron back from their mission in Mexico. Sarah says that she feels sick and after John stops, pukes outside the vehicle. Cameron suggests that Sarah might be pregnant. Sarah says that she might just have a stomach flu. Sarah starts to get up, but sees a tortoise next to the truck on it's back. Sarah flips the tortoise right side up and places it on the side of the road.
After getting home, Sarah rests in bed. Sarah tells John and Cameron that they need to go back to Mexico to destroy Cromartie's body. John says that there is no rush because they destroyed his chip. Cameron agrees that they should go back right away.
Derek gets a call from Jesse to meet with her right away. Derek goes to a warehouse full of storage containers. Jesse says that she spotted Charles Fisher in the mall and brought him here. She takes Derek into a room and he sees a man taped to a chair. Jesse says that Charles was sent back from the future by the machines. She says that he has to die. Jesse says that he is a 'grey,' a human who works for Skynet. The man says that his name is Paul Stewart. He asks them to check his license to see that he is not lying. Paul says that he works at a watch repair shop. Jesse tells Derek that he knows Charles, but Derek doesn't recognize him. Jesse says that she will prove that he is Charles, then leaves.
Sarah has a dream where she walks into a room full of clear baby cribs. She sees three tortoises in each crib except for one. Cameron is sitting in the corner of the room, holding a tortoise as if it were an infant. Cameron gets up and hands the tortoise to Cromartie. Sarah wakes up and finds herself sleep walking and pointing a gun at her own reflection in the window. On a piece of paper, she draws the image that she saw in her dream, three dots.
John and Cameron arrive at Cromartie's grave and begin to dig. John finds his boot, but the body is gone. They figure that it is impossible for Cromartie to rise out of his grave. They figure that Ellison must have dug him out.
Back in the warehouse, Derek cuts one of Paul's hands free to feed him. Derek sees a tattoo of a clock without hands on Paul's forearm. Derek asks which prison Paul was put in. Paul says that he was never in jail. Derek says that his tattoo means, 'till the end of time' or that he is serving a life sentence. Derek takes a picture of Paul on his cell phone and calls Cameron. He asks if she recognizes him. She says that she doesn't.
Sarah goes to Doctor Sherman's office. She tells him that she has an emergency. Sarah explains that she has been having nightmares and has been sleep walking. Although she doesn't have an appointment, Sherman agrees to see her. During the session, Sherman asks if anything traumatic happened to her since he last saw her. She says no. Sarah tells him about the three dots that she has been seeing. Seeing that Sarah is not being specific about her problems, Sherman tells her that he can not help. Sarah leaves and goes back home.
John and Cameron wait for Ellison across the street from his house. Cameron asks why Sarah saved the tortoise in Mexico. John explains that when some people see something in pain or in trouble, they help. Cameron asks if it is empathy. He says yes and adds that some people would not help. Cameron says that if the tortoise was not helped, eventually it would probably be crushed by a car. John asks if she would help the tortoise and she says yes. They watch as Ellison pulls up in his car and enter through his garage. Cameron and John enter his house through the front door. Ellison walks in the house and is grabbed by Cameron. John tells him that Cromartie's body is gone and that he is the only who knew about it. Cameron tosses him against the corner bookshelves then into a glass table. Ellison says that he doesn't know what happened to Cromartie. Cameron says that Ellison is lying, but John thinks that he is telling the truth. John tells Cameron to leave him alone. John apologizes and then leaves with Cameron.
At the warehouse, Jesse returns with a young man with a bag over his head. She throws the man in front of Paul and Derek. Jesse uncovers his face and a birthmark over his collarbone. Jesse exposes Paul's collarbone and Derek sees that they share the same birthmark. The young man says that his name is Charlie Fisher. Jesse tells Derek that Skynet sent Paul/Charlie back for a reason. She tells Derek to beat Paul/Charlie until he talks. Derek enters the room and grabs a pair of pliers. He walks up to the young Charlie and begins to rip out his fingernails. Paul finally admits that he is Charlie. He says that he was sent back as a reward for his work with Skynet. Later, Jesse tells Derek that Charlie needs to die. She says that Derek was captured by Skynet and was brought to a lab run by Charlie. She says that Charlie used Derek for months as a subject to teach the machines how to interact and gain information from humans.
Derek goes into the storage room and tells Paul/Charlie that he remembers him. Paul says that he is surprised that it took Derek so long to realize who he really is. Paul says that he was locked up in prison and survived Skynet's initial nuclear attack that killed most of the world's population. Paul asks if he is going to kill him, but Derek says no, then points his gun at young Charlie. Jesse stops Derek by shooting Paul/Charlie first.
John returns home and tells Sarah that Cromartie's body is missing. Sarah shows John her drawing of three dots and asks if he knows what it means. She explains that Cromartie was in her dreams. Sarah says that it was her fault that Cromartie found John in Mexico. She says that she let one of the boys that robbed their house live after she found him. She says Cromartie must have found him and learned where they live. She tells John that they need to find Cromartie's body.
Derek buries Charlie's body. After returning to the truck, Jesse tells Derek that they had to let young Charlie free because he is not the monster that they just buried. Derek says that he still doesn't remember being held by Charlie. Jesse says that Derek was almost obsessed about him and talked about his experience every day. Derek tells Jesse that he probably didn't go through the torture. He says that Jesse probably came back from an alternate future where he was tortured. Derek says they are actively changing the future.
At a military computer center, young Charlie enters his office using a fingerprint and retinal scan. Two federal agents approach him and tell him that he is wanted for questioning. He is told that he was found entering the office and uploading an irremovable backdoor program into the military computer system. Charlie says that he didn't upload any program. The agents see that Charlie is bruised and ask him what happened to him. Charlie explains what happened to him. The agents are brought to the warehouse, but find no evidence to backup his story. Charlie is then placed in prison for his breach of national security.
Meanwhile, Ellison meets with Catherine Weaver. Ellison shows Weaver the body of Cromartie that he dug up in Mexico. He tells her that he wants to learn how the machines work and how to find them.
Later, Sarah has a dream of meeting with Sherman. In her dream Sherman tells her that she is wasting her time with him because of her lying. Sherman tells her that she has work to do. Sarah wakes up and goes to the wall of all the names that the resistance soldier wrote before he died. Next to Sherman's name, she sees three dots pressed in by the soldier's bloody finger.

It was weird to see the tortoises in this episode. My girlfriend and I came across two tortoises in the road in the past two months. I saw the first one while I was grabbing my mail in front of my house. It was in the middle of the road trying to cross. I saw coming down the street, so I grabbed it to take it to the other side of the road. After that, my girlfriend and I came across another tortoise in the middle of the road when while we went camping. We were driving pretty fast, passed by it, threw our car in reverse so we could move it across. We read that tortoises usually want to travel the same way that they are facing. If you put a tortoise on the opposite side that they are facing, they will probably end up turning around to try to cross the road. Anyways, back to the show. I think that the writers are playing with fire when dealing with people jumping back from alternative futures. I guess it makes sense that Cameron doesn't recognize the man. There is a paradox for Charlie to be placed in prison because of what Derek and Jesse did in the present time. It gets complicated if you think about future Charlie's reason for jumping back in time if the future timeline has not yet been altered.
