It's two days before Halloween and Mrs. Wallace returns home with candy from the store. Mr. Wallace goes to eat some, but she tells him no candy until after Halloween. She then takes their baby to change it's diaper and Mr. Wallace sneaks a piece of candy. He notices something stuck in the roof of his mouth and picks at it. He finally dislodges the item and sees it's a razor blade. He starts to choke and coughs up another razor blade along with lots of blood. He falls on the floor and dies.
The Winchester brothers arrive on the scene to talk to Mrs. Wallace. She tells them that he had one razor in his stomach, another stuck in his throat, and two others he coughed up on the floor. She's horrified that this could have happened. Dean looks in her oven, then notices something behind the refrigerator. He pulls out a hex bag and shows Sam. Sam asks if her husband had any enemies or was having an affair. She says no and says that it wouldn't make sense to kill him by putting something in a piece of candy he may or may not eat.
The brothers return home and Dean eats some candy. Sam asks how he can eat candy after what they just saw and Dean says it's Halloween. Sam looks through the contents of the hex bag and finds a couple ancient Celtic ruins and a charred bone from a baby's finger.
Two girls attend a Halloween party. They talk to a boy at the party and one of the girls, Tracy, bobs for an apple. Her friend notices the boy checking Tracy out as she retrieves the apple, so she says she wants to try too. She dunks her head in the pool, then gets stuck. The water starts to boil. Tracy and the boy try to pull her out, but she ends up dead.
Sam and Dean arrive on the scene and talk to Tracy. Dean asks if she knew Luke Wallace and Tracy says no. They brothers return home and try to figure out what is happening in their town. Sam thinks the deaths could be part of a witch's spell that requires spilling blood from three people over three days with the last killing on Halloween. The spell is designed to raise Samhain and can only be performed once every 600 years. Sam says that this is the year the spell could work and if it does, ghosts, zombies and everything awful they've ever battled will walk the earth.
Dean is parked outside of the Wallace's home waiting to see if anything strange happens. It's Halloween and he has a pile of candy wrappers on the seat next to him. Sam calls and Dean reports that nothing has happened at Mrs. Razorblade's house. He then sees Tracy come to the door. They find out that she is their babysitter and that she lied about not knowing Luke. They suspect that she could be the witch.
Sam finds out that Tracy was recently suspended from school for getting into a violent fight with the art teacher. They go to the school and meet with Don, the teacher. He says that Tracy's work started to become inappropriate and disturbing, so he wanted to talk to her about it. He says the two got into a fight, the principal walked by and Tracy was expelled. Dean shows him the Celtic ruins and asks if he saw her make anything like that. Don says yes. They ask Don where they can find Tracy. He tells them she is an emancipated teen and lives by herself in an apartment.
Sam and Dean go to Tracy's apartment building. A kid dressed as an astronaut asks for trick or treat candy, but Dean says they don't have any. Sam says they have a ton in the car, but Dean says not anymore. The brothers then walk into Tracy's apartment and see Castiel and another angel named Uriel already inside. Dean introduces Sam to Castiel. Sam grabs his hand and says it's an honor to meet him.
Castiel pulls out a hex bag and says that he found it in the brothers' wall which means the witch is on to them. He says that the raising of Samhain is one of the 66 seals and it must be stopped. He tells the brothers that they need to leave town so that he and Uriel can destroy it to prevent Samhain from being raised. Sam and Dean object saying that 1,000 people live in the town and they won't sacrifice them all for one witch. Castiel tells them they are out of time and Uriel says that he's destroyed towns before. They tell the brothers to look at the bigger picture.
Sam becomes upset and says that angels are supposed to show mercy. They tell Sam they have no choice and that they are given orders from Heaven. Dean says they have a choice, they can refuse the orders. Dean tells Castiel he's not leaving the town so if they smite the town, they'll have to smite him too. He points out that he was saved from Hell because he is part of God's plan and he knows Castiel won't have him killed again. Uriel says that he'll just drag Dean out of the town himself, but Dean promises he won't let him. He tells the angels they will find the witch.
Sam and Dean return to their car to find it covered in white stuff. Dean curses the astronaut boy. Sam is upset because he thought angels would be different, more righteous. Dean points out that they are righteous which makes them jerks. Sam starts to question God and Heaven, but Dean tells him not to give up on his faith.
Sam examines the bone in the hex bag and says that it would require an excessive amount of heat to char a bone. He tells Dean he knows how it was done and to go back to the school. The brothers go to the art class, believing the kiln was used to char the bone. They break open a lock on a drawer of the teacher's desk and find a pile of small bones inside.
Castiel and Uriel sit on a park bench. Uriel call the brothers mud monkeys and Castiel scold him for talking about his father's creations in such a vulgar manner. Casteil says that they need to save Dean. Uriel again suggests pulling him out of the town then burning it. Castiel tells Uriel that would be going against their orders.
