The show opens with a woman named Olivia on her couch at her house. The lights and TV flicker and the woman sees her breath. The phone is ringing and the answering machine turns on, Bobby is leaving a message. The woman grabs a gun and shoots a demon. She starts to spread salt, but is grabbed and killed.

Back at the house, Sam and Dean are trying to figure out if Casstiel, the angel that saved Dean, is good or evil. Bobby finds proof in his books that angels are real and known to pull souls out of Hell. This could prove that there is a God, but Dean doesn't buy it. He thinks he's just a regular guy who doesn't deserve to be saved and doesn't see how he could be part of God's plan. Bobby hands the guys a stack of books so they can learn more about angels. Dean tells Sam to go get pies.

Sam goes to the store and runs into Ruby who confirms Casstiel is an angel. She leaves, scared, and tells Sam he should be worried. He returns, without pies, just as Bobby and Dean are preparing to leave. They all head out to check on Olivia and the rest of the hunters that Bobby can't get a hold of on the phone. They all turn up dead.

On the way back, Sam stops for gas while Dean is asleep in the car. Sam goes into the men's room and the mirror ices over. He turns around to see FBI Agent Victor Henricksen who blames him for his death. Fighting ensues. Dean walks in and saves the day.

Back at the house, the lights flicker and Bobby grabs an iron poker. He comes across two ghostly girls. Dean tries to call Bobby on the phone, but gets no answer. When they get to the house, Bobby is nowhere to be found. While Dean is searching, the doors slam shut and Meg appears. She tries to tell Dean that she's not a demon, just a college girl. She explains how she was still conscious while being possessed and is mad about being thrown out of the building. She blames Dean for her death and for her sister's subsequent suicide. She slaps Dean around, saying he could have saved her. Dean notices a weird symbol on her hand. He then shoots at an iron chandelier which falls on Meg and turns her to dust.

Meanwhile, Sam searches for Bobby in the yard of old cars. He eventually notices an ice covered side mirror and realizes that Bobby is inside. As he pulls open the door, the girl demons vanish. Bobby, Sam and Dean then retreat to the salt coated, iron walled safe house Bobby built. Dean tells them about the symbol and they look it up. It turns out to be the 'mark of the witnesses' which is placed on souls who are brought up against their will. It's also a sign of the apocalypse. The guys assemble their weapons while discussing religion. They exit the room to find Laser Eyes. Dean starts to talk to him, then Bobby shoots him, scolding Dean for chatting and not shooting.

They spread salt around the house and Bobby starts doing some chant. The girl demons come back, disappear, and laugh. Meg comes back and finds Sam. She scolds him for associating with Ruby. He shoots her and leaves. Dean is with Victor, who tells him how Lilith tortured everyone and he blames him. He reaches in to Deans chest and grabs his heart. Sam shows up and blasts Victor. Then the girls crush Sam with a desk. Bobby is still trying to finish his chant and just as a demon grabs his heart, he throws some stuff in the fire which causes all the demons to go away.

Later, while the guys are asleep, Dean wakes up to find Casstiel in the kitchen. Casstiel tells Dean he did an excellent job with the witnesses. Dean calls him a dick, asks where God is, and threatens to kick his butt. Casstiel gets mad and tells Dean that there is a bigger picture and the angel's numbers are not unlimited. He says he lost six other angels that week and Dean should show some respect. Casstiel also tells him that the witnesses were examples of seals being broken. He says there are 66 seals total and Lilith is the one breaking them. He tells Dean that if all the seals are broken then Lucifer will walk free and it's Dean's job to stop him. When Sam wakes up, Dean asks him if he believes in the devil.

BeeThoughts

I enjoyed tonight's episode. My favorite line was whe Dean said he was groped by an angel. I wonder if we're going to get to see Lucifer. That would make for an exciting fight. I wonder if Casstiel knows about Ruby. I assume he has ubiquitous knowledge, he might be busy with other things.

Buzzing Questions

  • Will the witnesses return, or are they dead for good?
  • Does Casstiel know about Sam and Ruby?
  • Will Lucifer walk the earth?
