Sam and Dean go to a comic book store and ask the owner if he saw anything unusual. The man tells them that they sound like the guys from the "Supernatural" books. He tells them that it was a series, but it didn't sell many copies. He says it just had an underground following. He hands them the first edition, then Sam asks for every copy he has. They go back to their hotel and Dean freaks out about how accurate the books are. Sam looks on the internet and finds that the last one in the series ended with Dean going to Hell. Sam tells Dean he can't find the author, but Dean says someone has to know who wrote them. They then go to the publisher. They tell her that they are fans and they want to give the series some renewed publicity. She quizzes them to test their fandom and they accurately answer the questions. Sam asks to meet with the author, but she tells him that he is a recluse. Sam and Dean show her their tattoos and she tells him the author's real name is Chuck Shirley.

Chuck writes about how Sam and Dean are contemplating visiting him. The doorbell then rings and Sam and Dean introduce themselves. Chuck shuts the door in their face, but the brothers force their way inside. Chuck tells them that Sam and Dean are fictional characters. The brothers show him their car and stockpile, but he still thinks they are just fans. Sam asks if he knows about Lilith and the seals. Chuck asks how they know about her since the books detailing those events were never published. Chuck is finally convinced that they are the real deal. Chuck thinks he must be a God since he writes things, then they come true. Dean tells him that Chuck didn't create them. Sam says Chuck may be psychic and focused on their lives. Dean asks to see what he is working on currently. Chuck says the latest work is a little weird. He says he wrote himself into it and it is a little Vonnegut-esque. Sam and Dean leave and go to a laundromat. Dean reads Chuck's writing and narrates every detail that is happening to them. Meanwhile, Chuck has a nightmare about a woman with Sam.
