A magician named Jay does a card trick for a bartender during Magic Week. Another magician named Vance becomes upset and spoils the trick. Later, Jay and his friends Charlie and Vernon watch a young magician named Jeb on stage. They make fun of the performer for wearing eyeliner and call him a douche. Jay then tells his friends that they are the joke. He says they're sad, old, and dying. He says he is going to do the table of death later, and his friends protest.

Jay is strapped to a table. A curtain is pulled and his assistant lights a blow torch. Jay struggles to break free from the restraints. A rope breaks and several spikes fall from the ceiling. The curtain is pulled back and the magician reveals he is fine. Meanwhile, Vance dies on the street from several puncture wounds.

Sam and Dean pass Jeb performing on the street. They call him a douche as he fakes a demon possession to find an audience member's card. Sam tells Dean that not all magicians are bogus. Dean teases Sam for getting into magic when he was young. They then decide to look into the man who died from 10 stab wounds without a single tear in his shirt.

The brothers talk to Vance's assistant. She tells them that her boss stole other magician's tricks, which made them mad. She then tells them that she found a card featuring 10 spikes in his room. She says it's strange because her boss hated cards tricks and wouldn't even allow them to be near him.

Jay's friend Charlie asks Jay how he went from being old and sad to young and energetic. Jay does a card trick and pulls three aces from the deck. He says he's been struggling for years to pull just one ace, but now he can pull three. He then says he wants to try the executioner later. Charlie objects saying Houdini wouldn't even try that. Charlie says he won't be there because he won't watch him die. Charlie then checks his pocket and finds the fourth ace. Jay says he can do the trick and he's ready.

Jeb argues with his manager on the phone. Sam and Dean find Jay's friends in the audience and ask about Jay under the guise of FBI agents. Jeb then meets with Jay. Jay's friends call Jeb a douche. Dean asks if they recognize the card of spikes. They tell Dean to try the specialty shop down the street. They give Dean the address and tell him to ask for chief.

Dean goes to the address and asks for chief. A man lets him in and tells him to wait. The Chief then walks out and Dean sees he's a leather clad guy with a whip. Dean tells him nevermind, realizing he was pranked. The chief asks Dean what his safe word is going to be.

Ruby goes to Sam and asks why he is in Magic Town. She says 34 seals have been broken and the angels are losing the war. Sam says he doesn't know what to do. Ruby tells Sam to go after the one breaking the seals, Lilith. Sam says he wants to, but he can't use his psychic ability. Ruby tells him it's the only way. Sam refuses. Ruby leaves and says if he's scared now, it will be even worse if Lucifer rises.

Sam and Dean reconnect. Dean goes to Jay's friends and threatens to arrest them for obstruction of justice. They tell Dean that his ID was fake. Sam and Dean then say they are magicians. Jay's act is about to begin and Charlie tells them to stick around if they want to learn something. Jay is strapped in a straight jacket with a noose around his neck. He has one minute to escape as the curtain is pulled. Meanwhile, Jeb is in his room and a noose wraps itself around the ceiling fan. As Jay's time expires, Jeb is hung. Jay emerges unscathed and Dean says it was amazing. Sam says it was not humanly possible.

Sam finds out that Jay was a big deal in the 70s, but he got old. Dean suggests Jay is using real magic to stage a comeback. They wonder how the tarot card fits in. Sam asks Dean if he thinks they will die before they get old. Sam offers Bobby as a role model of living a long life while fighting demons. Dean says their life is going to end bloody. Sam asks what if there was a way to end it now. Sam suggests that they cut the head off the snake. Dean says the snake has too many heads to cut.
