Nick and Calleigh meet with a witness who is scheduled to testify against Joey Salucci, a local crime boss. The witness, William Campbell, is being protected in a high rise building next to a construction site. Campbell tells the detectives that he is tired of looking over his shoulder. They tell him that after he testifies about the murder of AJ Watkins, his family will be placed into witness protection. They say that they haven't found AJ's body and need his witness account in order to put Salucci away.

Campbell tells the team about the murder incident. He says that he went to a club to meet some clients. He went to the bathroom and passed by AJ who was at the faucet. He says that he went into a stall and heard another man walk in. He heard the man say Salucci's name then 'This is for Emma.' After a brief struggle, he heard a gunshot. Campbell raised his feet so the man could not see them. He then called 911 while the man was in the bathroom. After that, the man heard another person enter the bathroom and then leave.

Eric notices a crane outside the building about to hit their floor. He tells Calleigh to run. The crane hits the building shattering the glass and pinning Eric down. Campbell is about to fall down to the next floor, but Calleigh grabs his hand. She is unable to pull him up and he falls down to the next floor, causing a rebar to impale and kill him.

Later, Calleigh and Eric meet with the construction site project manager, Travis. He tells them that he pulled the plug on the construction a week ago because the downturn in the economy. He tells them that he knows Salucci. The detectives tell him that they think it may not be a coincidence that Travis donated the building space to be used as a safe house and that he knows Salluci.

Horatio meets with Salucci at the graveyard while he is placing a lily on his daughter Emma's tombstone. Salucci tells Horatio that he is angry at him for locking him up for two years when he could have used the time to spend with his daughter. Salucci tells Horatio that Emma was at the beach and her friends left her sleeping by a bonfire which burned itself out. The next morning, AJ was riding around on his ATV and accidentally ran him over. Horatio tells him that he had a witness that was going to testify that Salucci killed AJ. Horatio tells him that he will gather enough evidence to arrest him for both murders.

Ryan is called to the scene and is ordered to investigate the crane's operating cab high above the ground. He finds that the crane has a monitoring system that he can later hack into. He spots a stain of blood on the interior and takes a sample.

Back at the lab, the team finds that the blood belongs to Kurt Greenfield. They bring him in for questioning. Kurt tells Tripp and Horatio that he worked for Salucci a while back, but got out of the business. He tells the detectives that after he was laid off by the project manager, he returned to grab a bottle of pills that he stashed under the seat. While there, he scratched himself, leaving a blood stain.

Calleigh and Eric meet with Campbell's wife, Beth and son, Noah. Calleigh tells Beth that her husband was a brave man. Beth slaps Calleigh and blamesher for her husband's death. Calleigh tells her that she will find her husband's killer.

Calleigh returns to the crime scene with Ryan. She shows him a fresh set of tire treads. Ryan notices glass that fell off the building. He sees grey paint on some of the glass and figures that the car that drove in was damaged. Calleigh enters a scan of the tire tread into her computer and finds that it belongs to a BMW. She narrows down the owners of BMWs related to Salucci and finds one man, Nick Fargosa.
