Crusoe is the only survivor of a shipwreck and finds himself on a jungle island. He has been a castaway on the island for years and looks to return to England to see his family.

He has prepared for his rescue and sees an opportunity when he spots a boat crew arrive on shore. He takes a zipline to his house that he built in the treetops. Crusoe sets in motion a series of contraptions that end up in igniting two signaling fires.

The crew's captain sees the fire as Crusoe waves his arms while approaching. The crew fires their muskets at Crusoe causing him to flee. The captain orders his men to chase after and they follow Crusoe into the jungle. Crusoe sets off a timed trap that launches multiple arrows killing one of his pursuers. Another sailor sets off a tripwire that causes a rope to wrap around his neck and lift him off the ground. One sailor, Tibith, notices markings showing where Crusoe's traps are located. With a stick he triggers two spiked panels that swing and clap together.

Crusoe hears the trap setting off and begins to relax. He stops to pet his dog, Dundee. Behind him Tibith fires his pistol and causes Crusoe to run.

An arrow is launched and hits Tibith in the shoulder. Crusoe thanks the bowman, an African named Friday.

Crusoe and Friday go to Tibith who is wounded and on the ground. They take his gun, pull the arrow out and lead him towards the shore. Crusoe tells him that if his crew is looking for treasure, he will not interfere. He gives his gun back, but the ship's captain, Lynch appears and draws two pistols. He tells Crusoe that he needs someone who knows the lay of the land.

Captain Lynch is accompanied by several men and a woman named Judy. He tells Crusoe that he and his crew are privateers. He forces Crusoe and Friday to carry cargo as they trek through the jungle. One of the men takes off his shirt uncovering a set of scars made out to represent a map. The Captain decides that they don't need two men and grabs Friday. Friday breaks free and dives off the cliff.

Friday clings on to the side of the mountain and begins to climb. Crusoe sees Friday peeking up over the edge and distracts the crew by focusing their attention to the map.

Friday climbs up and runs into the jungle.

Crusoe tells Judy that he does not know what the map means and she punches him. She tells Crusoe that the sooner they get what they want the sooner they will go. While walking, Judy says that she is taking after her father, who was also a pirate.

Crusoe takes the crew to the first destination on the map, Kissing Rocks. From there, he points out the next stop, the highest peak on the island.

The crew becomes tired from their trek and Crusoe finds an opportunity to escape. He runs into a cave and the pirates chase after him. He is about to exit the other side, but Judy, with her sword drawn, is there to stop him.

Earlier, Captain Lynch told Crusoe that he will be killed if he tried to run, but Crusoe asks for a fighting chance. He is given a sword and told to fight Judy. He refuses, but the Captain says that if he wins Crusoe will be given a 100 yard head start to run.

Judy and Crusoe fight and the woman begins to overpower him. Another crewmate sticks out his leg, causing Crusoe to trip and fall into a large puddle of water. Judy gets angry and swipes at the man who tripped Crusoe. The fighting ends and Crusoe is told to lead the way.

Crusoe remembers back to when he was a child being brought to a tunnel by his father, James. They meet up with a man, named Blackthorne, who is waiting at the passage's opening. Blackthorne tells Crusoe's father to leave his son as they enter. Crusoe decides to follow, and finds his father in a room full of dead bodies.

He overhears Blackthorne say that the place is where they take people who jump into the river and kill themselves. He sees his father cry as he is hovering over his mother's dead body.

Back on the island, Friday arrives at the Crusoe's treehouse and arms himself with swords, bows and arrows. He descends back to the ground in search of his friend.

On the trail up to the peak, Crusoe finds the map man eating berries. Crusoe tells him that the berries may be poisonous, but he says that his 16 years in a Spanish prison enables him to eat anything. He continues by saying that Judy's father was the man that imprinted the map on his back using rusty nails. He says that Judy barely knew her father and he died in prison. Afterwards, Captain Lynch broke him out.

Crusoe flashes back to when he was a child just after his mother died. He remembers three kids approaching him while he was sitting next to her grave. One of the kids, Susannah comforted him saying that her mother also died recently. Susannah later became Crusoe's wife.

The party reaches the top of the peak and Crusoe points down to the third point of the map which is a peninsula and a lake that resembles an Eagle's Eye. Tibith feels weak from being wounded by Friday's arrow and tells the captain that he is slowing them down. Lynch takes his gun, shoots and kills Tibith.

Crusoe, now tied to a crate of gunpowder, takes the crew to a river. Crusoe tells the captain that he should cross first, but he says no and orders a sailor to go first. The pirate enters the river, but is eaten by a school of piranhas. Lynch puts a sword to Crusoe's neck and asks him if there is another way.

He takes the party to a wheel attached to a rope that crosses the river. One by one, the pirates begin to travel across.

Friday finds the body of Tibith and takes his coat. He sees a trail where Crusoe dragged the gunpowder and follows it.

Back at the river, the map man takes off his shirt and Crusoe examines it further. He realizes that the points on the map can be connected creating an 'X'. Judy crosses and asks Crusoe if he has a wife.

Crusoe flashes back to the moment when he took Susannah to his new home. He tells her that he has plans of owning his own ship.

Back to the present, a pirate carrying rifles begins to cross the river. Friday arrives and shoots his arrows at the Captain. The pirates fire back, causing the rifles above the river to drop down below. Judy puts a knife to Crusoe's neck and orders Friday to toss his weapons over the cliff. He does and then she orders him to jump. Instead, he backs off into the jungle.

After the final sailor crosses, Judy then takes her knife and cuts the rope, causing the wheel to fall.
