A semi is driving down a dark, mountain road in the rain. The driver scans the radio, comes around a curve, and sees a car parked in the middle of the road. He slams on his breaks and jack-knifes the semi, but is unable to stop in time. He hits the car and the car flips several times. The driver gets out of his semi and goes up to the car, finding two bodies inside.

JJ tells the team that she just received a call about a series of mysterious accidents in the California/Nevada area. All the accidents involved couples in parked cars, hit by semis. In all three cases, there was no blood spatter in the car or seatbelt burns on the victims which means the couples were dead before the semis hit them. All the couples were killed by blunt force trauma to the head and the women showed evidence of rape. The couples also were all missing for 48 hours before the accidents.

Ian and Abby Corbin are driving down a dark road, both are feeling sleepy. Ian almost crashes into a semi, so they decide to pullover and spend the night at a cottage resort. Ian checks in while Abby waits in the car. She tries to call her kids, but gets no signal on her cell phone. Ian returns to the car and the couple goes to their room. Although they are the only car in the lot, the No Vacancy sign lights up after the couple checks in.

The team meets with the local police to investigate the latest accident. They ask the police to keep the case quiet from the press so that the killer believes he is getting away with murder. They explain that if the killer finds out the police are on to him, he'll be harder to catch. David asks for aerial photos of the area. They discover that the couples made no reservations before they went missing so they left no paper trail.

The detectives meet with the semi driver at the location of the last accident. They look at the aerial photos and notice that all the accidents happened near blind curves with ATV paths leading to the road. They know the killer is organized and planned his escape after dumping the bodies. The semi driver says he wants to tell his wife that he didn't kill the two people in the car, but the detectives insist he remain quiet. They promise the driver that once they catch the killer, they will clear the driver's good name.

The father of the woman in the latest accident shows up at the police station to claim his daughter's body. He tells Hotch that he's going to sue the truck driver. Hotch then tells him that his daughter and son in law were not killed by the driver, they were murdered. Hotch asks the dad if he knows anything about the camping equipment in the trunk of his daughter's car. He tells her that her husband loved camping and this time he talked her into going with him. Hotch asks him if he can think of anything else to tell him about his daughter. He tells Hotch that his daughter had a sweet tooth and her husband used to always bring her back donuts from a local diner. Hotch tells him that they found a match book from a Flo's diner, but the dad says he doesn't know the name, just that it was busy.

Emily and Derek go to Flo's diner and see that it's really busy. They show the waitress pictures of the latest couple that was killed. She remembers them because the woman gave her a $10 tip two days in a row. The detective assume the couple had stayed somewhere nearby before they were killed. They call Garcia and ask her to investigate the area.

Ian and Abby wake up in their cabin. Abby tells Ian she's starving and wants banana pancakes. He asks her to let him sleep in since they only have 8 hours left before they go home to their kids. As they talk, an eye peers in the room through a hole in the wall. Abby looks around for her underwear, but it's missing. She asks Ian to help her find it. Someone knocks on the door and Abby hides in the bathroom. Ian opens the door and is handed breakfast. Abby comes out of the bathroom and thanks Ian for getting her banana pancakes. He tells her that he didn't order breakfast. She asks who else could have known what she wanted to eat and the couple starts to get nervous.

The Corbins decide to leave. Ian starts the car, then returns to get Abby. She tries to open the door, but it's locked from the outside. He tries jiggle the handle and the door knob falls off. Suddenly, boards cover all the windows and the couple realize they are trapped. They begin to hear a loud ringing noise and knocking on the pipes. Ian looks out the peephole to look for anyone outside. A knife pokes through the hole and cuts Ian in the face.

While Ian tends his wound in the bathroom, one of the windows opens and a bearded man bangs on the glass. Ian tries to open the window, but is unsuccessful. Abby gives it another try and Ian yells at Abby for always second guessing him. The couple starts to fight and the window is boarded up again. Abby goes over to the sink and finds a bloody tooth.

The detectives learn that a couple in the area have been reported missing for 17 hours. They begin to assemble a profile of the serial killer/rapist. They figure he's in his early to mid 30s since the crimes require great strength. They think he probably works the night shift somewhere in the area. They believe him to be a misogynist who had a bad mother which caused him to hate women. For that reason, they think he is not married. They think that since he probably works in the service industry, he's probably good at hiding his true feelings about women.
