The team investigates the case of a missing boy. They see that the details match two other abductions. Garcia watches as the parents of Kyle, the missing boy, give a press conference. Emily, David, and Derek arrive at the house and are annoyed that there are so many people walking over the crime scene. The local detective, Bill Lancaster, tells the crowd that they are not ruling out a connection to two other cases where the boys were found dead in the woods. David and Derek tell Lancaster that he shouldn't have let so many people trample the crime scene. He tells them that he is trying to do everything he can to find Kyle. David and Derek talk to each other about the likelihood that the child will not be found alive.
Emily sits down with Kyle's parents, Dan and Sarah, and asks about Kyle's abduction from their home. She tells them that the perpetrator would have high social skills and may have been a uniformed person in their neighborhood. Sarah becomes upset and asks to lie down. Dan and Kyle's brother Danny stay to answer questions. Emily asks Danny if any strangers have approached them lately. Danny says no. Dan says that Kyle has been into video games lately and Danny builds model airplanes. Emily says it is likely that the abductor has been in their house. She asks them to tell her about everyone who has had access. Danny gets up and his dad tells Emily that Danny doesn't understand what is going on.
JJ tells Hotch and Spencer that there are hundreds of sexual predators in the area. They eliminate people who target females, have specific types since the boys looked very different, and narrow down suspects who go after a specific age. JJ calls Garcia and asks her to monitor ten suspects. Garcia looks at their spending and communication habits. Garcia sees that one of the suspects had no activity for two days. JJ realizes that the days correspond with the dates of one of the previous abductions.
David sees that Kyle's sheets were torn and his toys were broken. He says there was a struggle, which is consistent with the first two abductions, but notices that this case seems more chaotic than the other two. The team looks over the rest of the house. Derek sees a broken window in the basement and they figure the abductor entered there. They see that everything looks consistent with the previous abductions.
The team narrows down the suspect list to five men. The main target, Rollins, is the one with two days of inactivity. The team arms themselves and goes to Rollins's residence. They kick in the door and search the home, but find it is empty. Emily sees child pornography on the computer and Derek finds toys in a garbage bag. Detective Lancaster goes outside and sees Rollins. He begins to fire his gun at him, but Derek tells him to stop since Rollins may know where the boy is being held. Derek chases Rollins and apprehends him. Derek scolds Lancaster and he apologizes. Derek tells him he should be off the case because he is too emotionally involved. David and Emily tell Derek that Kyle is not there. They then decide to search the woods.
Hotch brings Dan to the station to see if any of the toys found at Rollins's house belonged to Kyle. The parents of Jimmy, one of the other boys that was abducted, are there too and they all look at the toys. JJ then takes them to see Rollins and they say they don't recognize him. Jimmy's mother recognizes one of Jimmy's toys. David tells Rollins that Jimmy's parents recognized his toys. He asks Rollins where Kyle is and Rollins says he doesn't know. David tells Rollins that the guys in prison are going to kill him when they see the details of his trial, then asks where Kyle is again. David says that if he tells him where Kyle is, he won't have to go to trial. David and Hotch ask Lancaster to make the deal, but Lancaster refuses and returns to search the woods.
Derek and Emily search the woods. Meanwhile, Hotch tells Rollins that he will send him to any prison of his choice if he tells him where Kyle's body is located. Rollins then says he threw Kyle in the river. Hotch is surprised that he didn't put Kyle in the woods. Hotch doesn't believe him. Hotch tells Rollins that he needs to have more control over the body so he can revisit it. He demands that Rollins tell him the truth.
Spencer and David go back to the house. They wonder why Rollins wouldn't take Danny since he fits his age profile and was just down the hall. Spencer sees that both beds in Danny's room were slept in. They realize that Kyle slept with his brother the night of the abduction. Spencer wonders why Kyle's room was destroyed. David thinks it was destroyed to look like the other crime scenes.
