Hotch calls the team in to the station. He tells them about Emily's case. David reads the first victim's file and sees that he died from dehydration. David suggests that they should talk to the families of the victims. Emily and Morgan examine Matthew's body. Emily remembers that Matthew helped her during a time of need. Morgan asks the examiner if there was anything unusual with Matthew's body. The examiner says that Matthew shows signs of long time drug abuse. The examiner says that she found ligatures on Matthew and the first victim, Thomas.

Hotch and JJ visit Matthew's parents. They tell the parents that they want to rule out foul play in Matthew's death. Hotch smells that the family was burning incense. Hotch sees that there are scuff marks underneath one of the feet of the bed. The mother says that Matthew's soul was corrupted. They tell the parents that they are there because they are friends of Emily. The family then asks the investigators to leave.

Meanwhile, Spencer and David go to the first victim's house and meet with his wife, Marie. She says that she found her husband's body on the bed. She says that she took her kids away because Thomas said that he was hearing voices and was cursing God. David notices scuff marks under the bed.
