A couple pulls up to a house at night with their son in the backseat. The parents tell the boy it's time and he asks what he should do if she doesn't like him. They tell him that he is 10 and almost a man. They tell him he's ready and they love him. The family then gets out of the car and approaches the house. The mom drops broken pieces of glass by the door. The dad breaks out a window and they enter the house.

The team is then told about a couple who was murdered in their sleep and their 10 year old daughter Cate was abducted. Jordan freezes for a moment, then joins the team to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, The girl begs the family to let her go. The parents give the son some water to give to the girl. The girl drinks it and the boy decides to name the girl Rena.

On the plane, the team looks at photos from the crime scene. They figure the girl was the target of the invasion which is why the parent's throats were slashed so sloppily. They find the neighborhood is mostly white and middle class. They look into any sexual predators listed in the area. Jordan scolds the team for talking so scientifically about a girl who was taken.

David and Derek arrive at the crime scene. The local officer tells them the neighbors didn't hear anything. David notices the girl's play area was secluded, but visible from the street. They think that the parents were surprised which is why they didn't scream out.

Jordan and Emily see that the neck wounds are different and come to the same conclusion that Derek and David arrive at, that there is more than one unsub. Hotch tells the local police that they may be looking for a team of killers.

Hotch meets with Cate's dad. Hotch asks if his ex-wife and her husband had any enemies. The dad says he doesn't know. Hotch says that they think his daughter was targeted specifically because of the location of her house. Hotch tries to find out more about Cate, but her dad doesn't see her very often. He says that she has epilepsy and needs medication to control it. Derek finds the medication at the house and brings it back.

The killers prepare their son to be with the girl. Cate then falls down and has a seizure. They realize that Cate won't work for their plans. The dad goes to kill her, but the mom says they don't kill little girls. They then get into their RV, pull over and roll a body wrapped in a carpet down a hill. The girl in the carpet struggles free and climbs up the hill. She flags a car down and is nearly killed.

The detectives go to the hospital and ask to speak to the girl. The doctor tells Emily that Cate may have holes in her memory from the seizures. Emily asks Cate's father if she can speak to his daughter. He reluctantly agrees. Emily tells Cate they are going to do a cognitive interview. Emily asks Cate to close her eyes and asks about the first thing she remembers. Cate says it's cold and a man tells her to be quiet. She says he's tall, has dark hair, and is old like her dad. Emily asks if anyone else is there and Cate begins to scream. Cate says she was put in the trunk of a car and was in there for about 10 minutes. She says the ride was smooth. Cate says when she got out of the car, she heard the wind through the trees. She says they took off her shoes and she was standing on carpet. Cate says she was in a little room and heard small bells. Cate says she remembers a little boy and his parents wanted her to play with him. Emily tells Cate she did a good job.

Hotch tells Cate's father that he helped save his daughter's life when he told them she had epilepsy. The two men then talk about how hard it is to not be a part of their children's life. Hotch calls Garcia and asks her to research group murders. Jordan tells Hotch they are examining the fibers on the rug.

Emily tells Cate's dad that she wasn't sexually abused. She then tells Hotch that Cate was abducted by a family who used a Romanian phrase when talking to their son.
