Booth, Bones, Camille, and Hodgins drive to a wake for Dr. Riley, an employee at the Jeffersonian. Hodgins tells her that his first name was Hank and the group reminisces. They arrive at the funeral and meet up with Sweets and Angela. They look at the room and Bones recognizes several people. Hank's brother Barney is surprised to see Bones. He tells her he is a writer too. The group is then called into the room to pay their respects to Hank. The detectives say their tearful goodbyes. Hank's wife glares at Hank's assistant Amy as she places a rose in Hank's coffin. Bones then goes up to the coffin and examines the body. Booth asks her what she is doing and Bones tells him that Hank was murdered.

Booth and Bones go outside and Booth gives her a drink. She tells him that they should remain clear headed so that they can figure out who killed Hank. Booth tells Bones to keep it down and suggests they use 'translated' as a code word for murdered. Bones says she felt cracked ribs. Booth points out that the coroner would have seen evidence of foul play. Bones says that Hank is about to be cremated and they have to get the body out of the room so they can investigate. Booth tells Bones that he will get an injunction. He tells her to go back in the room and look sad.

Hank's wife toasts Hank. She says she still loves him and that he was a good man. She cries as she wonders what she is going to do without him. Amy stares at Hank's wife as she speaks.

Booth finds Bones looking at the body and he tells her to stop. He says the judge denied their request for an injunction. Camille walks in and the two take her outside. Bones shows her a picture of a bruise on Hank's body. Camille says that the bruise wasn't there when the medical examiner looked at him. They realize that Hank was still alive when he was declared dead. They decide that they need to talk to the funeral director.

Booth and Bones go to talk to the funeral director and find him making out with Hank's wife. Hank's wife walks out and Bones shows the funeral director a picture of Hank's bruise. He tells them that sometimes bruises appear after a body has been dead for a few days. Bones asks about the rib breaks and he says they are a result of Hank's assistant performing CPR. Bones tells Booth that the ribs that were broken were not the ones that would have broke during CPR.

Hodgins makes a toast to remember Hank. He then looks up and sees Booth and Bones dragging Hank's body outside. Hodgins starts to panic and drops his glass. He continues his toast until he sees that Booth and Bones have gotten away with Hank. Camille tells Booth and Bones to put Hank in the car. Camille and Bones take Hank to the lab while Booth stays behind and covers for them.

Angela asks Hodgins about the toast. He says he was just emotional. Amy tells Hodgins that she thought the toast was wonderful. Hodgins asks Amy about her finding Hank in his office. Hodgins asks if Hank complained about chest pains. Amy says he was fine all morning. She says he went to a lunch meeting and he didn't tell her who it was with. Amy then cries and hugs Hodgins, annoying Angela. Amy goes to freshen up and Hodgins fill Angela in on the potential murder.

Angela goes to Booth and asks him about stealing the body. Hank's mom walks in and says she needs to say some private things to her son before he is cremated. Booth tells her it isn't a good idea. Angela tells her that the undertaker used inferior putty to fill in Hank's face and it is melting. Angela tells her to let Mr. Tung fix Hank's face before she says her goodbyes.

Bones and Camille examine the broken ribs. They see that he was definitely stabbed. Camille counts thirteen wounds and suggests an embalming instrument as the weapon. They figure that Hank had a heart attack, was declared dead, then sent to the undertaker and stabbed to death. Bones and Camille then talk to Mr. Tung over the computer and he says he stabbed the corpse. He wonders if he is crazy and Booth tells him to explain what happened. He remembers that he started the embalming process and Hank's eyes opened. He says it scared him and he stabbed him as a reflex from watching zombie movies. Bones says that there are some forms of paralysis that mimic death. Camille points out that embalming fluid would remove any toxins from the system. Camille sticks a needle in Hank's eye and says some toxin may be left in his vitriolic fluid. Camille finds that Hank was indeed poisoned.
