A model has a photo shoot in a vacant lot with crows circling all around. She then sees a bag full of bloody flesh. Booth and Bones arrive to investigate. Bones sees that there is a visible ear, but nothing else is distinguishable. She tells Booth that the contents of the bag probably does not add up to a whole person.
The bag, along with a second bag found at the lot, are brought to the lab and the team investigates. Hodgins places the time of death at 48-72 hours ago. Camille thinks the body was put through a wood chipper. Hodgins finds a fleck of gold and black pearls in the remains. Vincent suggests various burial rites, but none of the rituals involves chopping the body up into little pieces, so Camille rules his theories out.
Angela and Bones have coffee together and Angela tells Bones about her sexual fasting. Angela then looks out the window and sees a strange bearded man. She tells Bones she has to run so she can save Hodgins.
Camille tells Booth that the body was dead before it was chopped up. She also points out frost and bits of a meteorite. Angela sees Hodgins and tells him to leave town. She says her father is in town and he blames Hodgins for their failed relationship.
Hodgins sets up a cannon aimed at a dummy to run a test. Bones walks in and asks what they are trying to prove. Vincent says that they are seeing if a frozen person hit by a meteorite would blow up into little pieces. Bones tells them that they are wasting time, but the detectives continue their test. The lab shakes and Booth falls into Bones.
Booth and Bones go to an aerospace institute and Bones shows Booth the piece of meteorite that matches the piece found in the victim. The detectives meet with Dr. Landis Collar and he asks Bones if she has forgiven him. Bones tells Booth that she was rejected for a position at the institute because her work dealt with the past. Booth hands Landis, who is blind, a piece of the meteorite. He recognizes the piece and says was set in his fiance's engagement ring. He says she has been ill and he hasn't seen her in a few days. Bones tells him that they found a body containing pieces of her ring. Booth asks to speak to anyone that had contact with Diane. He tells them to meet with her students.
Booth and Bones meet with Diane's student, Milton. He tells them about his study of transporting single cell organisms. He says Diane was excited to publish his work. He then tells them that her other student, Jennifer, fought with Diane a few days ago. The detectives meet with Jennifer and she tells them that she was yelling at Milton, not Diane. Bones asks about Jennifer's work with Carbon dating. Jennifer admits that Diane wouldn't publish her work. She says she last saw Diane 3 days ago.
Vincent and Hodgins examine the remains. They figure that the remains match a person who weighs about 130 pounds. Camille walks in and reminds the two that they are not allowed to be alone in a room together without adult supervision. Hodgins leaves and Vincent tells Camille that a wood chipper was not used to cut up the body. He says the pieces are too random and cleanly cut. Camille points out that the body could have been frozen, then shattered. Camille allows Vincent to consult with Hodgins.
Booth and Bones examine Diane's office. Landis tells them that she was working on the Hadron collider and she received a lot of hate mail because of it. He tells them that Dr. Christopher Beaudette was going to take her place as editor. He adds that Diane and Christopher were having a sexual relationship.
Christopher is brought to the headquarters. Sweets tells Booth and Bones about how Christopher admitted to having an affair with Diane, but he says he is not in love with her. Booth goes in to continue the interview and asks who else he was sleeping with. Christopher says he was sleeping with Jennifer, who was also sleeping with Milton.
Hodgins and Vincent gather the team together and demonstrate how the body was broken into little pieces. Hodgins pulls out a turkey frozen with liquid nitrogen and drops it to the floor. The turkey bounces and causes destruction in the lab.
